worship music

Throughout the year, we worship the Lord with praise songs led by our wonderful praise band! We welcome all who desire to have their voice heard, regardless of your experience or talent level! Find out how you can join the band by contacting us, or just come Sunday and enjoy the band's musical gifts as we sing to God together.

Abbey Wells, Vocalist | Abbey Wells was born in Southern England and moved to Beverly, MA in 2001 when she was 9. She went to UMass Amherst where she earned her B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After living and working in Cambridge for a year and a half after graduation, she moved back to Beverly and now works for a biotech company in Danvers developing cancer research tools. She came to Church in the Cove in 2006, right before starting high school, and immediately joined the choir. She is now a member of both the choir and Embrace Change, on top of leading congregational hymns. Church in the Cove, and Embrace Change especially, have been like a second home and family, and she is beyond lucky and blessed to be a part of them.

David Buchanan, Bass Guitar | David spent the early years in Southern Ca., Long Beach, back to Beverly with a stint in Hamilton before settling back in Beverly a short distance from. CITC. Fast forward to 2012. He heard about a local church with an awesome pastor and fantastic band, and became intrigued. Having played in many bands over the years (his first was in the 8th grade!) he had to check it out, and that was it — he became a member of the Church in 2013. One Sunday, now-fellow band-member, Mike, said to the whole Congregation: “Is there a closet Bass player out there?” and David decided it was time to come out of the closet. Though he hadn’t played bass in years (he currently plays guitar & sings in a R&R band), he still had his bass. According to David, Jetta was kind enough to offer me an “audition” ( he recalled the exact words, “Why don’t you come down Wednesday night and we’ll see what happens?”). He must have passed the audition because that was about three years ago! Thank you to Jetta, Mike, Ted, Kurt, Abbey, and Suzy for all the great music and for changing my life. I will always Embrace Change.

Mike Wells, Guitar | Mike hails from Southern England. He works in Information Technology, and is currently the IT Director for the Town of Westford, north of Boston. His main hobby outside of music is railways — he has a small steam railway in my garden. Mike learned to play guitar at about aged 14 when he wanted to play like Jimi Hendrix (he’s still working on that). He moved to the USA in 2001 and started coming to CITC about 10 years ago, and began playing guitar here and there with Don Moca shortly afterwards. Initially the two of them just played for odd services, but when Jetta became the Music Director, playing became a regular thing!

Ted Hawkes, Electric Guitar | Ted is a native of Marblehead and currently lives in Gloucester. He has also lived in Hamilton, Beverly, and Magnolia and was stationed in Portland , Maine aboard the USCGC Campbell while in the U.S. Coastuard. Early musical influences included jazz and classical records in his parents collection that ranged in style from Count Basie and Charlie Parker to Prokfiev and Mozart and also included Elvis, Bill Hayley and Buddy Holly.  After his discharge from the service Ted pursued music in many bands and travelled throughout New England and New York with occasional forays into Canada. Balancing music with work, a return to school and athletic pursuits made for a busy and fulfilling life. National recognition eluded the many bands Ted was in but he is said by some to be world famous in Gloucester. Musical fulfillment and fellowship in Christ continues with the friends and fellow musicians of Embrace Change at the Church in the Cove.
